My thoughts are killing me …

Of course your thoughts are killing you; nothing else can really hurt you.  Indeed, no one can hurt me- that’s my job!

An important part of the past life healing process is proper discussion and analysis / dissection of the issue that the person undergoing the therapy wants to address. It is necessary to get to the root cause of the issue or negative thinking pattern for the healing to work.  The cause of suffering is the way we treat our thoughts.

Life is an opportunity for realisation of this truth.  So, do not believe your thoughts.  Instead observe them and recognise that they do not belong to you, so you need not get attached. Thoughts are like clouds in the sky- they do not belong to you and they come and they go all by themselves – would you argue with a cloud?  No.  Thoughts are also like clouds as they hide reality; they hide the beautiful blue sky above if you look only at the clouds.

I caused a lot of suffering for myself following the loss of my wife.  I believed thoughts like “I wish I died” and “she was my world; my happiness depended upon her being alive”.  In believing these thoughts in the wake of my wife’s death, a part of me (or most of me!) died and I ensured any prospect of future happiness was excluded from my life.  I overcame this prolonged period of depression and PTSD when I realised that these thougths did not belong to me.  I was not the first person to lose a special someone and I would not be the last.   Further, for me to happy, no one has to live for me.  It’s my life, I live for me.  The reality is that I lost my wife.  I needed to accept the reality and ignore my thoughts of past and future; my imagination.  In any event my wife may have been reborn by now.  She may yet appear again in my lifetime as a child of mine in years to come or in some other form.  Past life healing therapy teaches me that much.

To free yourself of suffering and go deeper into meditation, you need to free yourself of thoughts.  That is not to say that must not have thoughts!  It is to say that you must not believe your thoughts without questioning them.  If you understand and recognise that thoughts do not belong to you then the thought will let go of you.

We all live in our own little imaginary worlds.  This is why it is a mistake to judge others by your own standards – how can you ever know what someone else is thinking?  This is the cause of our suffering.  We need to accept reality, to accept what is.  This is how to be here and now.

Has there ever been a moment in life when you didn’t want more than you already had?

Really, has there ever been a moment in your life when you didn’t want more than you already had?  I suspect not.  We all appear to be of limitless desire.  But what happens when you cave into desire?  You desire ten more things!  This is why most rich people are in fact unhappy.  And this is just one of the ways in which we cause our own suffering.  Think about it.

Everything of value that had happened in your life you didn’t see it coming anyway! You never expect the greatest things in life that happen; good things simply unfold.  If you understand this- if you accept it and embrace it and let go of your desires- you will see that the universe is unfolding as it should.  And your issues can melt away as you are bigger than that; your true Self is beyond all that.

Desires lead to expectation and expectation leads to disappointment.  You can read a great review about a movie and then go to the see it at the cinema, only to leave feeling disappointed.  By contrast, how many times have you found yourself glued to the telly at home enjoying some rubbish movie no one has ever heard of?

But how to drop desires which lead to expectations and cause suffering?  You cannot simply flick a switch and turn off your thought process.  And there is no point fighting your thoughts – you won’t win!  The only way is meditation.  Close your eyes and watch your thoughts.  See how they come and go without you doing anything.  See how they do not even belong you to you.  Then notice that the thoughts are not continuous – look out for the gaps – that bit of silence.  Be of no mind.

The more you let go of your issues the deeper you go into meditation and the greater the healing. Past Life Healing Therapy gets to the root cause of your issues.  Life’s problems – illnesses, disease, suffering, anxiety, etc – are all just physical manifestations of deep emotional wound.  And it is no use just addressing symptoms.  It’s just like wanting to get rid of a tree but cutting the tree and pruning the leaves instead of uprooting it.  This is pointless.  New branches and leaves will grow back thicker and stronger.  Unless you uproot the tree you will make it stronger and destroy yourself instead of the tree.

Dreams and self-realization

Dreams can give you indication; they contain a message from your unconscious mind.  Whatever you have missed during the daytime will appear in your dreams.  Anything you suppress, any unfinished business, will appear at night.  Whatever you suppress will be ever-present.  Try to uncover what you have suppressed.  Suppression is like a disease: when you accept, you grow and when you let go, you (self) heal.  Otherwise the disease can spread like cancer inside you; in your existence.

If, in the moment, you avoid doing something or saying something – if you suppress it – you will dream of it.  If instead, in the moment, you become aware of the rising passion or fear (or whatsoever emotion is triggered) then you will not suppress it; you will not dream of it.  Every moment in life is unique so capture it.  It’s your development.  And there is no limit to self-realization.  The soul knows no bounds; it is ever-increasing.

As Osho says, the only way to save the world is one individual at a time.  If you save yourself, you can then (and only then) begin to save others.  As the old Zen saying goes: If every individual strived to make their own life peaceful then we would achieve world peace. The doorway to that self- realization, that change, is meditation.  Past Life Healing Therapy can help you let go of your issues and go deeper into meditation.

Sound / Chakra Meditation

Your life energy (also known as your ‘prana’ or ‘Qi’ -pronounced “chi”) is like electricity which runs along (meridian) lines throughout the human body. Chakra’s are like junction boxes where the lines come together. There are seven main chakras in the upper body, as follows:

The Root Chakra (muladhara) is red in colour and it is located at the perineum / pelvic floor. Specifically, in men it is located in the area between the anus and scrotum and, for women, it is the area between the anus and clitoris. Those who practice yoga will be familiar with the moola bandha- contracting the moola bandha triggers this root chakra. Our basic survival instincts are located in this energy centre. It is also linked to our ability to trust in others.

The Sacral Chakra (svadhistana) is orange in colour and it is located about 2 inches below the navel (also known as the dantian). This second energy centre is linked to our sexuality and family connections. It is also likened to our inner child being associated with creativity, innocence, vulnerability and spontaneity.

The Solar Plexus Chakra (manipura) is yellow in colour and it located in the solar plexus, that is about 2 inches below your sternum in your chest. This chakra is linked to our ego / our self-concept as an individual, fame, authority and free-will.

The Heart Chakra (anahata) is green in colour and it is located just left of the centre of your chest. It is associated with love, hatred, faith, compassion, anger, duty and devotion.

The Throat Chakra (vishuddha) is blue in colour and it is located at the base of your throat. It is linked to our creativity, communication/ expression, our knowledge and abundance.

The Third Eye Chakra (ajna) is indigo in colour and it is located at the centre of your forehead in-between the eyebrows. It linked to intuition, insight/ inner vision, wisdom and relaxation.

The Crown Chakra (sahaswara) is violet in colour and it is located at the very top of your head. It is linked to our union with the Divine and cosmic consciousness and unbounded awareness.

Each of these seven chakra’s resonates with specific sounds that you can make/ chant:

The Root Chakra – “LAM”

The Sacral Chakra – “VAM”

The Solar Plexus Chakra – “RAM”

The Heart Chakra – “YAM”

The Throat Chakra – “HAM”

The Third Eye Chakra – “SHAM”

The Crown Chakra – “OM”

To meditate on the chakra’s and awaken each energy centre first sit down in a comfortable position with your back straight and watch your breath. Once you have settled begin chanting the first mantra “LAM” visualising its location in your body and the colour red. Do this for about 5 minutes and then watch your breath and settle back down.

Then do the same for the second chakra – visualise its location in your body (i.e. the dantian; 2 inches below the navel) and its colour (orange) and chant the mantra “VAM” for 5 minutes or so.

Repeat this routine for each chakra (remembering to leave a gap between each stage as you simply watch your breath and settle back down):

chakras 2

Finally, after chanting all seven mantras you then observe the silence for 20 minutes; watching your breath.

This meditation should only be done in the mornings as it gives you an abundance of energy . Ideally it should be done first thing and before any work out. If you do this in the evening you will not be able to sleep at night!

Visual (object or image) Meditation Technique.

It is no accident that Osho’s Past Life Healing Therapy technique (which I am qualified to deploy) uses meditation as the means to accessing past lives. Meditation and Past Life Healing Therapy are inextricably linked. Both are the only true means of self-discovery and knowing yourself is true wisdom.

With this Visual Meditation Technique you need to choose an image or object to meditate on. The type of image or object used does not matter. The mind simply requires a fixed point of reference for the technique to work. As you focus on the image or object, notice its subtleties: the way the light hits it, its colours, the way it contrasts with the background, how the image makes you feel, whether or not its outline is roughly made or smooth with sharp edges, etc. As you observe the subtleties do not analyse or compare or try to label what you see. Try to meditate for at least 20 minutes.

If you keep focusing and settle on the image then gradually your thoughts will become quieter and quieter; gradually the image will disappear from the mind and transform into bliss. Using this technique you can let go of your thoughts of the past or future and settle into the present.

The other day, whilst walking the dogs, I happened to see a large bird of pray land in a nearby tree. The dogs were off the lead but in an enclosed part of the nature reserve. I sat down, straightened my back and continued watching the bird. I continued meditating on the image of this beautiful bird sat perfectly still in the nearby tree. Watching the bird and focusing on it among the trees, my vision started to blur a little. I then became aware that all the branches from all the surrounding trees seemed to tessellate and form a mosaic pattern all around me. I felt a profound feeling of interconnectedness as I meditated. It was a powerful spontaneous thing.

Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental Meditation is another technique that aid self-discovery and healing and is a perfect complement to Past Life Healing Therapy. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi developed the Transcendental Meditation technique about 60 years ago. He rose to fame in the West when he became guru to The Beatles.

I was given my mantra by Professor M.A. Narasimhan in Mysore, India, in 2015. I have practiced Transcendental Meditation almost every day since.

Transcendental Meditation is a simple, effective mental technique which allows the mind to transcend, or settle beyond thought, into silence; that most powerful state of awareness. It does not involve any mental control or any active thought process. Transcendental Meditation takes just 20 minutes, twice a day, sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. You repeat a very simple (one word) mantra until your thoughts settle. You then drop the mantra and observe the silence. If you find yourself participating in your thoughts (and not merely observing your thoughts) then you can reintroduce the mantra and find the silence again. It is a simple and powerful meditation technique.

“When, through meditation, the conscious mind expands to embrace deeper levels of thinking, the thought wave becomes more powerful and results in added energy and intelligence.” – Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Past Life Healing Therapy, yoga and panic attacks

Past Life Healing Therapy tells us that before searching for a cure it is important to look deeply into the root cause of the illness. It is also important to get an idea of how things will be when symptoms have been removed, because otherwise there may be unrealistic expectations about what recovery will be like. For example, eliminating anxiety is not the outcome of treatment for panic attacks; the outcome is the ability to manage and overcome these anxious feelings, emotions and fears.

For example, if group situations tend to trigger panic attacks then this can lead to being afraid of going to public places, self-confidence plummets, fears rise, and opportunities to make friends and form romantic relationships are limited; limited by a heightened sense of wanting to avoid such ‘conflict’ situations.

The precise cause of panic attacks is the subject of much debate in western medicine and is therefore still unknown. Historically, panic attacks have been attributed to over-activity of the nervous system (and, as a result, tranquilisers were often prescribed), but what causes over-activity of the nervous system? Past Life Healing Therapy tells us that the underlying cause is emotional. This can be healed two ways: Firstly, by bringing awareness to these negative thought patterns that are being self-imposed and ‘talking’ to the anxiety when in a situation of fear. Secondly, by going back to the life in which the issue first occurred and confronting the problem and understanding how that is effecting you today.

Once the healing has occurred the fear has been overcome, then self-confidence improves, fearful thinking becomes less, opportunities for relationships increase, and panic ‘triggers’ are reduced and the fear become manageable.

More recently, clinicians have been trying to understand the role of chaotic breathing in panic attacks. Some have even suggested that chaotic breathing is the cause, and not the result, of panic attacks. With this in mind, treatments for panic attacks can now include breath training.

Those who know yoga, pranayama (that is alternate nostril breathing) and mediation will be familiar with working with the breath and the concept of living a life of balance. In this way, such yogic practices can help balance the nervous system and control breath and slow thoughts – all of which help counter anxiety issues. As such, a combination of yoga and Past Life Healing Therapy can help someone overcome anxious feelings, emotions and fears.

Chanting and Past Life Healing Therapy

Chanting is a great way to start the day. It is how I begin my every warm-up to āsana/ yoga practice. Chanting and yoga (like Past Life Healing Therapy) are an aid to mediation and self-healing/ self-discovery.

The purpose of chanting is that wakens your body by stimulating the (upper) seven chakra’s (which are like junction boxes for the channels of energy which run through your body). Each one of the seven chakra’s are stimulated by different sounds which resonate to the specific frequency of each chakra; respectively: “RAM”, “VAM”, “HAM”, “LAM”, “YAM”, “SHAM” and “OM”. Mantra’s that you chant (see the example below) include these seven sounds, so as to awaken all your chakra’s when chanting.

The ‘asato ma’ chant:

“asato ma sat Gamaya

tamaso ma Jyotir Gamaya

mRItyor ma amRItam Gamaya”

The Metta Bhavana mediation technique

As I have said before, Past Life Healing Therapy is an aid to meditation/self-discovery and not a substitute for the same. The more commitment you have to healing yourself, the easier it is to go deeper into mediation.

The original name of the Metta Bhavana mediation practice means ‘loving-kindness energy’. There are five stages to the meditation.

In the first stage, you feel metta energy for yourself. You start by becoming aware of yourself and your breathing and thoughts, and allowing yourself to focus on feelings of peace, calm, and tranquility. Then you let these grow in to feelings of self-confidence and love deep within your heart. Then repeat the mantra: “may I be well; may I be happy” and continue embracing the positive feelings about yourself.

In the second stage think of a good friend. Bring them to mind as clearly as you can, and think of their good qualities. Feel your special connection with this good friend of yours and the positive feelings that result and encourage this metta energy for your good friend to grow by repeating the mantra: “may they be well; may they be happy” quietly to yourself.

Then in the third stage, think of someone you do not particularly like or dislike. It may be a work colleague or someone else with whom you regularly see around and you’re your feelings are ‘neutral’ towards them. You send them your positive metta energy repeating the mantra: “may they be well; may they be happy”.

Then in the fourth stage, think of someone you actually dislike — an enemy (failing that, think of someone who dislikes you). Do not get hung up on any feelings of hatred. Just picture them as clearly as you can and include them in your positive metta energy, repeating the mantra: “may they be well; may they be happy”.

In the final stage, first of all you think of all four people together — yourself, the friend, the neutral person, and the enemy. Then see yourself standing in front of these four people and see your metta energy as a golden light coming from your chest. See that golden light surround all four people and extend your positive metta energy to all four people. Then see the golden metta energy light extending further outwards – filing the whole room, then the whole house, then your neighbours houses and the entire neighbourhood and throughout the world. Then gently come out of the meditation, open your eyes and familirise yourself with where you are.
